Uruapan to inaugurate Artisanal and Cultural Center at Plaza de La Ranita

The Secretariat of Urban Development and Mobility (Sedum) has announced the inauguration of the Artisanal and Cultural Center at Plaza de La Ranita in Uruapan, Michoacán. Scheduled for Sunday, August 16, the opening event will feature traditional cooks, local artisans, and live music.

Located in the former Cine Odeón, the 1,478-square-meter facility was rehabilitated as part of the complementary projects for the Uruapan cable car system. The project involved an investment of 19.8 million pesos and includes a Casa de las Artesanías shop and outdoor areas for community activities.

A notable feature of the site is Michoacán’s largest mural, measuring 63 meters long and 9 meters high, which depicts local cultural elements such as traditional water carriers and the National Park. Sedum official María Elena Huerta Moctezuma stated that the project aims to recover public space and strengthen community life and tourism infrastructure.
