Uruguay and Argentina celebrate National Book Day with community reading events

In Uruguay, the Cámara Uruguaya del Libro organized a National Book Day program at the Amelia Sanjurjo Sports Complex in Montevideo. Activities included author meet‑and‑greets, a literary swap to promote collaborative library building, and a preview of the upcoming Children’s and Youth Book Fair (FLIJ). The event aimed to spark curiosity among children, youths and families and to encourage ongoing engagement with reading.

In Argentina’s Río Grande, the municipal government held a festive day for the National Book Day at the Rafaela Ishton Community Center. Through the “Juegoteca ambulante” and a communal “giant book” project, children participated in games, storytelling and collaborative writing, promoting the right to play, expression and access to culture.

Both events highlighted local authorities’ efforts to strengthen community bonds and foster a love of books among young readers.
