Uruguay and Paraguay push digital livestock management systems

In Uruguay, Gabriel Osorio, director of the National Livestock Information System (SNIG), visited Artigas as part of the agency’s annual tour and reported that about 95 % of producers filed their sworn livestock declarations electronically. The electronic shift, now two decades old, is credited with faster data collection, higher accuracy and reduced paperwork, supporting Uruguay’s long‑standing traceability framework.

In Paraguay, the Rural Association (ARP) concluded the first phase of the GANARP platform, a digital system co‑financed by the Ministry of Information Technologies and the Inter‑American Development Bank. The platform registers detailed information on farms, animal IDs, health, reproduction and production, aiming to improve traceability for export markets, cut administrative errors and enable data‑driven decision‑making. The next stage will promote wider adoption among producers.
