Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa denies feud with Valverde after World Cup group exit
Uruguay were eliminated in the group stage of the FIFA World Cup after drawing both of their opening matches and then losing 0‑2 to Spain, finishing bottom of their group. Coach Marcelo Bielsa announced his resignation following the early exit.
Bielsa refuted media reports of a dispute with Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, saying there was no conflict and that Valverde had been fully cooperative. He accepted full responsibility for the team's performance, calling the result a "shock" and acknowledging disappointment. Bielsa also mentioned logistical issues, such as the federation denying a shortened recovery period for defender Ronald Araújo, and explained adjustments to training sessions during the tournament.
