Uruguay initiates national consultation on adolescent digital technology use

Uruguay is conducting a national public consultation to understand the impact of digital technologies on youth before implementing new regulations. As part of this initiative, the technology company NST, a member of the Digital Citizenship Working Group, held a workshop titled “Adolescencias & Pantallas: Hablemos” at Colegio San José in Minas. The event aimed to provide tools for care and foster dialogue among families, educators, and students regarding emerging technologies.

To ensure the perspectives of younger generations are included, Unicef and the Plataforma Infancia y Adolescencias (PIAs) have launched a specific survey titled “Tu voz importa.” Utilizing the U-Report platform, the survey allows adolescents and young people to share their experiences, concerns, and suggestions regarding digital environments, including social media, apps, and online safety. This effort complements the broader consultation driven by the Chamber of Representatives and AGESIC, seeking to create a democratic framework for future digital policy.
