Argentina advances Central Bank and electoral reforms

The Argentine government and its allies are advancing a significant legislative agenda in Congress. A key priority is the reform of the Central Bank's (BCRA) Organic Charter, which aims to preserve the value of the national currency by restricting the financing of the Treasury and provinces. Patricia Bullrich, leader of the La Libertad Avanza bloc in the Senate, confirmed that the Senate will discuss this reform, alongside the 'Inocencia Fiscal II' initiative designed to encourage the formalization of foreign currency.

Simultaneously, the administration is navigating electoral reforms, including debates over the modification or elimination of the PASO primary elections. While the Executive seeks to reform the electoral system, it faces challenges in securing full support from allied blocks like PRO.

Other major legislative items include the submission of the 2027 Budget, a sovereignty law regarding the Malvinas Islands to penalize illegal fishing and hydrocarbon exploitation, and discussions regarding family debt and disability emergency extensions. The government's political leadership is meeting to coordinate strategies to ensure these projects move through the various commissions and plenary sessions.
