Uruguay announces provisional squad under new coach Diego Forlán

Uruguay's new head coach, Diego Forlán, has announced a 46-player provisional squad for the upcoming FIFA international window. This marks the beginning of a new era for the national team following the departure of Marcelo Bielsa.

The squad features several high-profile players, including Real Madrid captain Federico Valverde, Darwin Núñez, and Ronald Araújo. Notably, veteran striker Luis Suárez was not included in the list, ending speculation regarding a potential comeback.

The provisional roster also includes nine players currently playing in the Brazilian league, such as Alexander Barboza, who has recently completed the naturalization process. Other notable inclusions are Giorgian De Arrascaeta and Emiliano Martínez.

Uruguay is scheduled to play three international friendlies: against Japan on September 24, South Korea on September 28, and India on October 6 in Kolkata. The match against India will be Forlán's first official assignment at the helm of the senior national team.
