Uruguay national team squad announced for Asian tour
Diego Forlán has announced his first 26-man squad as manager of the Uruguay national football team for an upcoming international tour in Asia. The roster includes 18 players who participated in the 2026 World Cup, meeting contractual requirements for the tour.
Uruguay is scheduled to play three friendly matches: against Japan on September 24 in Miyagi, South Korea on September 28 in Seoul, and India on October 6 in Calcutta. The squad features several notable names, including Federico Valverde, Darwin Núñez, and Giorgian de Arrascaeta, as well as new call-ups such as goalkeeper Thiago Cardozo, defender Juan Rodríguez, and midfielder Facundo Bernal.
The selection also impacts various clubs; for instance, Flamengo will be without Guillermo Varela and Giorgian de Arrascaeta during the window. Additionally, the exclusion of Miguel Merentiel from the squad ensures his availability for Boca Juniors in their upcoming Copa Argentina fixture.
