Santiago Mazari Hernández sentenced to 105 years for organized crime

A federal judge in Cuernavaca, Morelos, sentenced Santiago Mazari Hernández, known as “El Carrete”, to 105 years in prison for leading the Los Rojos criminal group. The conviction covers organized‑crime offenses, drug‑related health crimes and kidnapping, and includes restitution, suspension of political and civil rights and a public admonition.

The ruling was issued by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (FGR) after a coordinated investigation that linked Los Rojos to drug trafficking, extortion, kidnappings and homicides in the Mexican states of Morelos and Guerrero since at least 2012. Mazari Hernández, a native of Amacuzac, Morelos, had been a fugitive after his 2019 arrest in Leonardo Bravo, Guerrero. The court also sentenced Alfonso Gabriel Miranda Gallegos, a former mayor and relative of Mazari, to 82 years for related organized‑crime charges.
