Uruguay drug trafficking crackdown

In early July, police in Durazno detained a 33‑year‑old man after he discarded items that led officers to recover two nylon packets containing 20.51 grams of pasta base, a cocaine precursor. The suspect was taken into custody for further judicial processing.

Later in July, authorities launched "Operation Nexus" in Dolores, Soriano, conducting nine coordinated raids that resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals, including a 26‑year‑old homicide suspect. The operation seized two revolvers, a modified air‑rifle, 725 g of base‑pasta‑type substance, ammunition, cash and electronic devices. The homicide suspect received a prison sentence for continuous drug‑supply offenses with firearms, with further homicide charges pending.

These actions illustrate a continued intensification of Uruguayan law‑enforcement efforts to disrupt local drug‑trafficking networks and seize significant quantities of cocaine precursors.
