Guanajuato unveils 2026 school calendar, summer courses and university term

The state government of Guanajuato announced the 2026‑2027 school calendar, setting 185 days for basic education and 195 days for teacher‑training institutions. Classes for preschool, primary and secondary will begin on 31 August 2026 and end on 8 July 2027, while teacher‑training schools will run until 14 July 2027. Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo signed the calendar alongside State Education Secretary Luis Ignacio Sánchez Gómez and SNTE leaders, pledging 100 million pesos for school repairs, 1.014 billion pesos for new infrastructure, backpacks for more than 586 000 students and new scholarships.

Simultaneously, the Secretaría de Educación de Guanajuato launched its 2026 summer courses in municipalities such as San Juan Pan de Arriba, Salvatierra, Yuriria and Irapuato. Over several weeks, thousands of children participated in reading, science, art, sport and health‑habit activities, with teachers like Marisol Martínez overseeing the programs.

The Universidad de Guanajuato also confirmed its academic calendar for the August‑December 2026 semester, with classes starting on 10 August 2026 after a break that ended on 29 May 2026. Administrative staff resume duties on 27 July, and the semester includes three scheduled holidays.
