Uruguay wool and livestock markets report stable prices and demand

Pablo Iramendi, president of the Uruguayan Wool Consignors and Auctioneers Union, said the 2025/2026 wool harvest ended with strong, stabilising prices. Premium Merino fibers reached US$10‑11 per kilogram, while Corriedale prices doubled from the previous season. He highlighted the growing importance of green‑label certification and the emergence of "lomo" (mid‑season) sales, which help secure prices for producers and exporters.

The Uruguayan Livestock Consignors Association reported a firm and dynamic market for cattle and sheep in the week of 7‑13 July. Prices for beef cattle rose modestly across all categories, with the average carcass price for steers reaching US$5.62 per kilogram. Sheep prices also increased, except for ewes, which remained unchanged. Slaughter numbers grew, with 46,711 cattle and 7,036 sheep processed, reflecting sustained industrial and export demand.
