Uruguayan livestock auctions see strong demand and record calf prices

Livestock auctions in Uruguay have demonstrated strong market demand, highlighted by successful sales for Cabaña Macedo and Agronegocios Sarandí.

At Cabaña Macedo’s 12th annual auction in Artigas, the entire offering of Angus and Brangus cattle was sold. Brangus PI bulls averaged US$ 6,351, while Aberdeen Angus PI bulls averaged US$ 6,230. The sale also included pregnant females and heifers, with one lot of heifers from Sitwer Internacional, a firm owned by footballer Edinson Cavani, selling for US$ 1,740 per head.

In a separate auction held near Carrasco Airport, Agronegocios Sarandí reported a record-breaking price for a lot of light calves, which sold for US$ 6.42 per kilo. The auction saw high demand and sustained rhythm, particularly for lighter categories, although pregnant cows saw a slower pace of business.
