Uruguayan midfielder Diego Hernández signs with Brazil's Sport Recife until 2027
Uruguayan midfielder Diego Hernández has joined Sport Club do Recife on a contract that runs until 31 December 2027. The 25‑year‑old, who was under contract with Botafogo, spent the 2025 season on loan at Remo, playing 33 matches, scoring three goals and providing three assists as Remo earned promotion to Série A. Hernández began his professional career at Montevideo Wanderers and has previously played on loan at León in Mexico and Everton in Chile. The transfer was facilitated by a prior clause involving the move of defender Riquelme, and it marks Hernández’s second signing for Sport this window, following right‑back Claudinho.
Sport’s director Haim Ferreira confirmed the deal, noting that Hernández will bolster the team’s attacking options for the remainder of the season and beyond.
