Uruguayan national killed in Palermo homicide investigation

An investigation is underway in Buenos Aires following the homicide of Carlos Andrés Migales Viera, a 31-year-old Uruguayan national with a criminal record for drug trafficking and robbery. Migales had moved from Montevideo to Argentina in September with his wife and two daughters to escape threats in Uruguay.

The attack occurred at a temporary rental apartment in the Palermo neighborhood on Costa Rica Street. Investigators noted that the building's electronic keypad entry was not forced, suggesting the victim may have known his attackers or that an accomplice provided access. Migales' wife and children were present during the attack but remained unharmed.

Police are exploring several theories, including a settling of scores over lost drug shipments, conflicts between Montevideo-based clans, or potential links to a notorious Uruguayan gang involved in a 2004 bank robbery attempt in San Isidro. At the scene, authorities recovered a pistol, 30 bullets, three magazines, and US dollars.
