US airstrike on Iran and Missouri floods as Ukraine hits Russian oil fleet
The United States carried out a third airstrike of the week against Iranian targets after a commercial vessel marked with a Syrian flag was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes hit facilities in Bushehr, Asaluyeh, Bandar Abbas, Sirik and Qeshm.
In Missouri, heavy rain caused a historic flood that trapped more than 500 people, many of them children at summer camps. Rescue crews used boats and helicopters; at least one person died and several bridges and roads were cut off.
Ukraine deployed UAVs to attack 21 Russian oil tankers and support vessels in the Sea of Azov, disrupting Russian fuel and grain shipments. The same week, Russia launched a ballistic missile at Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district; the city's air defenses responded and no casualties were reported.
Oil prices jumped, with Brent closing up 9.6% at $83.30 per barrel and U.S. WTI rising 9.4% to $78.14, driven by renewed U.S. sanctions on Iran’s ports. The United States also refunded $81 billion in tariffs after a Supreme Court ruling. Venezuela appointed Felix Plasencia as foreign minister amid post‑earthquake reconstruction, and Washington announced new sanctions targeting Cuba’s state companies and tourism sector.
