US airstrikes on Iran kill 17 and wound 115 amid escalating tensions

In July 2026 the United States launched a series of air attacks on Iran, targeting sites in six Iranian cities on July 8‑9. The Iranian Health Ministry reported that the strikes caused 17 deaths, including one woman, and injured 115 people.

Iran’s foreign ministry condemned the attacks, saying they aim to undermine Tehran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran said it hit U.S. bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. The U.S. military said the operations were intended to reduce Iran’s capacity to target vessels in the region.
