US alerts to alleged Iranian plot to assassinate Trump, switches to older Air Force One

U.S. officials are reviewing intelligence provided by Israel that suggests Iran may be planning a new scheme to kill President Donald Trump. The alert prompted the Secret Service to move Trump onto a legacy Air Force One aircraft for part of his return journey from Turkey after attending a NATO summit in Ankara.

The report, cited by the Wall Street Journal and CNN, says the Israeli data mentioned discussions in Tehran’s hard‑line circles but did not detail a specific operation. Some U.S. officials have questioned the credibility of the tip. Trump dismissed media claims that Israel supplied the intel, reiterated that he is at the top of Iran’s “hit list,” and warned that any successful attempt would trigger unprecedented U.S. retaliation. The flight involved a Qatar‑donated, modified Boeing 747 that was later swapped for the older Air Force One before the leg to Washington.
