US and 50 allies issue joint statement on Iran nuclear snapback

The United States and approximately 50 allies, including members of the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) such as the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, have issued a joint statement regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Marking the first anniversary of the implementation of the ‘snapback mechanism,’ the signatories claim that responsibility for the return of United Nations Security Council sanctions lies with Tehran.

The statement asserts that six UN Security Council resolutions—1696 (2006), 1737 (2006), 1747 (2007), 1803 (2008), 1835 (2008), and 1929 (2010)—became enforceable again on September 27, 2025, following the completion of the snapback process. The signatories, led by France, Germany, and the UK, initiated this process in response to what they describe as Tehran’s ‘continuous and significant non-compliance with its nuclear commitments under the JCPOA.’

The coalition has pledged to enforce restrictions related to these resolutions and to prevent the supply, sale, or transfer of items, materials, equipment, or technologies that could contribute to sensitive nuclear activities or the development of weapons of mass destruction delivery systems, including drones. The statement calls for increased information sharing among PSI partners and urges Iran to return to its non-proliferation commitments and cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
