US and China negotiate potential tariff reductions

The United States and China are negotiating potential reductions in trade tariffs across several critical sectors. According to a Chinese government spokesperson, both nations “hope to reach an agreement on lowering import taxes soon.”

Discussions are reportedly focused on reciprocal relief involving approximately $30 billion in trade. Specific areas under evaluation include American energy and agricultural shipments, as well as lower duties on Chinese manufacturing inputs. These negotiations come ahead of a scheduled summit between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping, which may lead to an extension of a one-year trade truce.

In preparation for these developments, China has reportedly completed more than half of its commitment to purchase American soybeans. While specific tariff levels and product deadlines have not been finalized, the ongoing engagement suggests a move toward easing trade costs between the two major economies.
