US military withdrawal from Iraq to be completed
The United States is proceeding with the complete withdrawal of its military forces from Iraq, following an agreement reached in 2024. Donald Trump has announced the intention to finalize this exit, marking the end of a military presence in the country that began following the September 11 attacks.
Despite attempts by Iran to disrupt global energy markets by targeting the Strait of Hormuz and attacking Saudi Arabian oil infrastructure, Persian Gulf crude exports have largely stabilized. While Brent crude previously exceeded 107 dollars per barrel, it has since declined to approximately 103 dollars. JPMorgan reports that ten-day average exports from the region stand at 17.5 million barrels per day, while Goldman Sachs estimates weekly exports at 19 million barrels per day.
Regional shipping routes have shifted to bypass potential blockades; for example, 23 percent of crude now transits via United Arab Emirates pipelines to the Gulf of Oman. Currently, satellite data indicates that Iranian crude oil is not exiting the country via maritime routes, leaving Iran as the only regional producer unable to export its oil.
