US and GCC Joint Statement on Middle East Security Draws Iranian Condemnation
The United States and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) ministers issued a joint statement pledging sustained U.S. commitment to the security of GCC member states. The declaration condemned Iran’s ballistic‑missile, drone and proxy activities, called for unrestricted navigation of the Strait of Hormuz, and affirmed support for the sovereignty of Syria, Lebanon, Kuwait and other regional partners. It also welcomed mediation by Pakistan and Qatar and reiterated backing for U.S.‑facilitated talks between Israel and Lebanon.
Iran’s foreign ministry responded, labeling the joint statement “interventionist, irresponsible and provocative.” Tehran accused the United States of using regional bases to pursue aggression against Iran and urged GCC members to reconsider alignment with Washington, stressing that lasting peace requires regional cooperation free from external interference.
