US and Iran exchange attacks, raising Strait of Hormuz tensions

The United States carried out a raid on Iranian communication and air‑defence sites, drone depots and mine‑laying infrastructure after labeling an incident in the Strait of Hormuz as an attack on a tanker. It marked a second wave of U.S. bombings intended to curb Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping.

Iran said projectiles caused explosions at the ports of Sirik, Bandar Lengeh and Qeshm island and announced strikes on U.S. bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. Kuwait reported intercepting two ballistic missiles. Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi warned Tehran would keep exclusive control of the strait for 30 days and promised an “implacable” response. President Trump said U.S. patience was nearing its limit and hinted at further military action. Negotiations to stop the exchanges were scheduled for Doha.
