US and Peru strengthen ties through AI, security, and mining agreements
The United States and Peru are deepening bilateral cooperation across technology, security, and mining sectors. US Ambassador Bernie Navarro announced a memorandum of understanding regarding artificial intelligence, aimed at strengthening Peru's regulatory framework, digital infrastructure, and workforce training.
In a separate strategic development, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed Peru's incorporation into the Shield of the Americas. This initiative is designed to coordinate efforts against transnational threats, including organized crime and narcotics trafficking. Rubio also designated Peru as an important non-NATO ally.
Economic ties are also being reinforced through the mining sector. Following a memorandum of understanding on critical minerals, the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has allocated US$5 million directly to Peru's mining industry to boost economic activity and fiscal revenue.
