United States approves additional $4 billion military financing for Poland

The United States announced an extra $4 billion in foreign military financing (FMF) for Poland, bringing the total amount available under the programme to $20 billion. The funding will support Poland’s acquisition of U.S. defence equipment, including F‑35 fighter jets, HIMARS rocket systems, Patriot air‑defence batteries, Abrams tanks and Apache helicopters.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki arrived in Washington for a visit that also aims to discuss strengthening the U.S. troop presence on NATO’s eastern flank and to raise the issue of the revoked journalist visa of Polish politician Zbigniew Ziobro. Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski highlighted the need for more U.S. forces in Poland and urged the American side to address the visa matter during Nawrocki’s talks with President Donald Trump.

Poland’s defence spending remains the highest share of GDP in NATO, and the U.S. continues to provide large‑scale loans and grants to support Warsaw’s rapid re‑armament, which critics warn could create a substantial debt for future generations.
