U.S. Army acquisition chief visits Hanwha Aerospace in South Korea

Brent Ingraham, the U.S. Army assistant secretary for acquisition, logistics, and technology, visited Hanwha Aerospace’s production facilities in Changwon, South Korea, on August 26. The visit included a U.S. delegation reviewing manufacturing capabilities for artillery, rocket systems, and other land-based defense platforms.

The inspection follows a recent agreement where Hanwha Defense USA was contracted to supply six prototype systems for the U.S. Army’s Mobile Tactical Cannon program, with an option for 12 additional units. During the tour, the delegation observed the K9 howitzer production line, noting automated processes such as robotic welding used for mass production and quality control.

In addition to the K9 systems, Hanwha demonstrated the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher, M-SAM and L-SAM air defense systems, the Redback infantry fighting vehicle, and the Korean Vertical Launching System. Discussions between the two parties focused on expanding bilateral defense cooperation to support U.S. Army modernization efforts.
