US Army awards $99 million Humvee upgrade contract to AM General
The U.S. Army has granted AM General a modification contract worth roughly $99 million for its fleet of Humvee (HMMWV) vehicles. The award underscores the service’s continued reliance on the older platform while the newer Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) A2 program experiences significant delays.
The JLTV A2 effort is behind schedule by more than 20 months and faces a shortfall of about 2,000 vehicles, prompting concerns about a possible $133 million cut to FY 2027 funding. A larger $8.66 billion contract awarded to AM General in 2023 was intended to deliver over 20,000 JLTVs, but technical and documentation issues have hampered progress.
