U.S. Army renames command to focus on autonomous systems

U.S. Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Christopher LaNeve has redesignated the Army Futures and Concepts Command (FCC) as the Army Futures and Autonomous Systems Command (FASCOM). This restructuring is part of a broader effort to integrate autonomous and unmanned technologies across all echelons of the military force.

FASCOM will be led by a three-star general and will consolidate several organizations, including the Combat Capabilities Development Command, Medical Research and Development Command, 75th Innovation Command, Joint Modernization Command, and the Transformation Decision Analysis Center. The goal is to accelerate the development and deployment of autonomous fires, combat vehicles, reconnaissance, and crewed-uncrewed teaming through fiscal year 2028.

This move follows a directive from Acting Army Secretary Adam Telle and aligns with the Pentagon’s recent announcement to establish a four-star Autonomous Warfare Command (AUTOWARCOM) focused on drone technology and similar systems.
