US Army prioritizes autonomous vehicles and unmanned systems
At the AUSA 2026 exhibition in Washington, manufacturers showcased a variety of unmanned platforms designed for supply transport, casualty evacuation, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and fire support. These autonomous land, air, and sea vehicles aim to reduce soldier workload and increase logistical resilience against enemy attacks.
U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced the creation of a new four-star command, the Autonomous Warfare Command (AUTOWARCOM), alongside a working group dedicated to the future of defense. This new structure is intended to accelerate the development and deployment of autonomous and robotic capabilities across all military branches. Hegseth noted that lessons from Ukraine highlight the necessity of creating systems capable of rapid adaptation to changing battlefield conditions.
