US authorities arrest 11 cruise ship workers in Boston

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Homeland Security agents arrested 11 foreign crew members on two cruise ships docked in Boston during a law enforcement initiative known as ‘Operation Tidal Wave’. The operation, which took place between August 14 and 16, targeted individuals suspected of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse and exploitation materials.

The arrests occurred on the Volendam, operated by Holland America Line, and the Norwegian Breakaway. The suspects include nine citizens of the Philippines, one from Indonesia, and one from Nicaragua. Following searches of their living quarters and electronic devices, the individuals were processed for deportation under the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Holland America Line stated it has immediately terminated the employees involved, while Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed it is cooperating with the investigation. This crackdown is part of a broader effort; earlier this year, authorities arrested 41 crew members across nine ships in San Diego and Puerto Rico as part of the same operation.
