US-Bangla Airlines announces major fleet and route expansion
US-Bangla Airlines has announced a major expansion plan aimed at strengthening Bangladesh's position as a potential regional aviation hub in South Asia. The airline intends to add 21 new Boeing aircraft, specifically Boeing 737-8 and 737-800 narrow-body models, to its fleet by 2027.
Beyond increasing aircraft numbers, the airline aims to expand its network to 30 international destinations across 20 countries. While the immediate focus includes South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, long-term goals involve entering markets in Europe, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and North America.
Industry experts suggest that strengthening domestic carriers can help retain aviation revenue within Bangladesh, which is currently dominated by foreign airlines on international routes. Success for this expansion will depend on infrastructure development, skilled human resource training, improved safety standards, and coordinated aviation policies between the government and private sectors.
