CENTCOM: US forces facilitated 1 billion barrels of oil transit through Strait of Hormuz
US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that US forces have facilitated the transit of over 1 billion barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz over the last few months. Admiral Brad Cooper stated that the military has provided coordinated protection for more than 2,000 commercial vessel transits through the strategic waterway.
Cooper noted that the primary transit lanes in the strait have been cleared of mines. Consequently, the volume of crude oil, cargo, and liquefied natural gas moving through the strait in the past two weeks has reached its highest level in six months.
Amid these developments, Cooper claimed that Iran has exported zero barrels of oil due to an ironclad US blockade. To further secure the region, the US is working with the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) partners, shipping companies, and insurers to increase traffic volume, enhance regional air defenses, and form a new coalition attack drone unit.
