US Chamber of Commerce leads historic business delegation to Syria
A historic business delegation led by the US Chamber of Commerce has concluded a two-day mission to Syria, marking a significant step in rebuilding economic ties following years of civil war and sanctions. The delegation included over 80 delegates representing 50 American companies, ranging from multinational corporations to startups.
During the visit, the group met with numerous high-ranking Syrian officials, including ministers of finance, economy, health, and transport, as well as the Governor of the Central Bank of Syria. US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Jacob McGee encouraged American businesses to enter the market, noting that companies such as Chevron, HKN, Visa, and Mastercard are already engaging with Syrian counterparts.
Syrian officials expressed a strong desire to attract American capital and technology to aid in the country’s economic revitalization. Ahmad Ramadan, Director of the Syrian Investment Authority, stated that the nation is entering a new phase of global economic integration. The mission aimed to establish the trust and business environment necessary to move from initial contacts toward long-term partnerships and memorandums of understanding.
