Overview

Following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024, the United States and Syria have begun rebuilding economic and diplomatic ties.

In mid-September 2026, a business delegation led by the US Chamber of Commerce completed a two-day mission to Syria. The group, representing approximately 50 American companies, met with high-ranking Syrian officials, including the Governor of the Central Bank and various ministers. US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Jacob McGee encouraged American market entry, noting that companies such as Chevron, HKN, Visa, and Mastercard are already engaging with Syrian counterparts.

By late September 2026, US Special Envoy Thomas Barack described Syria as a “model of what can happen” regarding the growing cooperation between Damascus and Washington. During the United Nations General Assembly, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa met with representatives from the US Chamber of Commerce and major American corporations to discuss investment opportunities aimed at supporting Syria’s reconstruction and economic recovery.
