U.S. Coast Guard detains 24 migrants near Santa Barbara Island

The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a 28-foot cabin boat three miles south of Santa Barbara Island, California, resulting in the detention of 24 migrants. The interception occurred near Long Beach in Los Angeles County shortly before midnight on Saturday, September 5.

The crew was transported to the port of Newport and handed over to U.S. Border Patrol agents for processing and deportation. This incident follows another recent maritime rescue in California on August 28, where 37 migrants were found stranded without food or water.
