U.S. Coast Guard migrant interceptions in California

Overview

The U.S. Coast Guard has conducted multiple maritime interceptions of migrants off the coast of California.

On August 28, crews rescued 37 migrants from a 30-foot recreational vessel drifting approximately 88 miles southwest of Channel Islands Harbor. The group had been without food, water, or fuel for two days and lacked personal safety equipment. Following the rescue, the individuals were transferred to U.S. Border Patrol personnel for deportation proceedings.

On September 5, the Coast Guard intercepted a 28-foot cabin boat three miles south of Santa Barbara Island, resulting in the detention of 24 migrants. The group was transported to the port of Newport and handed over to U.S. Border Patrol agents for processing.
