U.S. Coast Guard monitors Chinese research vessels transiting Bering Sea to Arctic

In July 2026, the U.S. Coast Guard tracked two China‑flagged research ships, Xue Long and Xue Long 2, as they moved north through the United States exclusive economic zone and over the extended continental shelf in the Bering Sea en route to the Arctic. The cutter Munro conducted Operation Frontier Sentinel to observe the vessels, emphasizing protection of U.S. sovereign rights and compliance with international law.
