US Congress pushes for fuller Epstein file transparency

A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers, led by Representatives Thomas Massie (R‑KY) and Ro Khanna (D‑CA), is demanding that the Department of Justice fully comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which was signed into law on November 19, 2025. The legislators say the DOJ has unlawfully withheld more than 3 million Epstein‑related files, made excessive redactions, and missed the statutory deadline for release.

The proposed legislation would allow state attorneys general, victims, and members of Congress to sue the DOJ for non‑compliance and grant victims the right to obtain unredacted records about themselves. The group has warned it will circulate a discharge petition to force a floor vote if the measure is not considered by the upcoming Monday. Meanwhile, the DOJ’s Office of the Inspector General opened an audit in April to assess the department’s adherence to the law, though no findings have been released yet.
