US Congress Pushes Israel‑US Military Integration in 2027 Defense Bill

The 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) contains provisions that require the U.S. State Department, Commerce Department and other federal agencies to cooperate with Israeli counterparts on military and technology programs. The legislation calls for coordination on Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) projects, the Missile Defense Agency, Space Command, directed‑energy systems, artificial intelligence and biotechnology.

The Department of Defense’s Defense Intelligence Agency has labeled Israel a counter‑intelligence threat, a designation that ordinarily would trigger heightened oversight. Nevertheless, the bill advances a permanent structure for joint U.S.–Israeli activities that could limit future congressional ability to alter or terminate the arrangements, raising questions about the impact on American democratic accountability and sovereignty.
