US Consulate in Erbil, Iraq Secures Against Explosive Drone Threat

A booby‑trapped drone was intercepted by air‑defence systems over Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s semi‑autonomous Kurdistan region, near the US Consulate. No casualties were reported. The drone was part of a series of attacks that also targeted the nearby international coalition base and Erbil International Airport, where five drones were shot down and a sixth crashed, igniting a small fire in agricultural fields.

Kuwait later reported that hostile drones struck its Al‑Abdali border crossing with Iraq, causing material damage but no injuries. The incidents occurred amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, raising concerns about the security of diplomatic and military facilities in the region.
