BYD Geely Dongfeng ultra‑fast charging 1500 kW charger

Chinese automakers and battery producers are unveiling ultra‑fast charging solutions that can replenish electric‑vehicle batteries in under five minutes. BYD’s Blade 2.0 battery reaches 70 % state‑of‑charge in five minutes and 97 % in nine minutes, while Geely’s Golden Brick battery does the same in 4 minutes 22 seconds. Hongqi’s 12C prototype claims a 3‑minute 41‑second charge to 70 % and 8‑minute 3‑second to 97 %.

Dongfeng Motor has introduced a 1 500 kW high‑power charger housed in a 1.2 MW cabinet, scalable to 2.4 MW site capacity with at least 96.7 % efficiency. BYD plans to install 20 000 of these megawatt‑class chargers by the end of 2026 and several thousand in Europe by mid‑2027. CATL reports a consumer‑grade battery that can charge from 10 % to 80 % in 3 minutes 44 seconds, though it is not yet fitted to production vehicles. The rapid‑charging race is supported by a growing network of 600 kW stations across China, aiming to boost vehicle throughput at public charging sites.
