US Corn and Soybean Conditions Slip Slightly as Ohio Crops Lead Development

The USDA’s latest weekly crop condition report shows 61% of U.S. corn rated good to excellent, a 2‑point decline, while 14% is poor to very poor, up 2 points. Soybean condition remains steady with 63% good to excellent. Other major crops show mixed trends: winter wheat is 86% harvested, matching the five‑year average; spring wheat is 55% good to excellent, up 2 points; cotton, rice, sorghum and pastures all see modest changes in condition ratings.

In Ohio, corn development is ahead of national averages, with 90% of the crop silking and 37% at the dough stage, compared with the five‑year average of 83% silking and 30% dough. Ohio corn condition is rated 61% good to excellent. Soybeans are also ahead, with 87% blooming and 58% pod‑setting, surpassing both last week’s figures and the five‑year average. Ohio soybean condition stands at 59% good to excellent. Winter wheat in the state is fully harvested, and oat harvest is 76% complete, above the typical 72% pace.
