US Court Grants Trump Stay Blocking BBC Access to Financial Records

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida issued an emergency stay on August 6, 2026, temporarily preventing the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) from obtaining financial documents belonging to the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust. The order halts the BBC’s request for tax returns, financial statements and ownership records covering roughly 400 corporate entities that were sought as part of Trump’s $10 billion defamation lawsuit.

The lawsuit stems from a 2024 BBC documentary about the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot, which Trump alleges misrepresented his comments and damaged his reputation and business interests. Earlier, Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett had ordered the disclosure of the records, but Trump’s legal team successfully persuaded the court to pause the request while the scope of the financial disclosure is reconsidered.
