U.S. CPSC orders recall of OCTROT electric blankets and Galanz refrigerators over fire hazards
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a voluntary recall of about 178,000 OCTROT electric blankets and throws sold on Amazon after reports of wiring failures that caused 27 fires and at least 15 injuries. Consumers are instructed to stop using the blankets immediately, disconnect the power cord, cut it in half, photograph the disabled product and send the image to OctrotRecall@gmail.com to receive a full refund.
In a separate notice, the CPSC warned that approximately 121,680 Galanz Retro refrigerators sold through Home Depot and Amazon pose a fire risk due to electrical component defects. The agency received 34 incident reports, including a fatality. Owners should cease use of the refrigerators and contact Galanz Americas at 888‑462‑0579 or via email for a free repair service.
