US CPSC Galanz refrigerator recall

In late July 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a voluntary recall of roughly 121,680 Galanz Retro refrigerators sold through Home Depot and Amazon. The recall cited internal electrical components that could short‑circuit and ignite, resulting in 34 documented fires and one fatality. Owners were instructed to unplug the units and could obtain free repair kits or in‑home service.

Two days later, the CPSC issued a broader safety notice. While reiterating the Galanz refrigerator recall and its associated fire risk, the agency also announced a separate recall of about 178,000 OCTROT electric blankets and throws sold on Amazon after wiring failures caused 27 fires and multiple injuries. Consumers were told to stop using the blankets, disconnect power, and submit a photo of the disabled product for a refund. The combined notice reinforced the urgency of ceasing use of the recalled products and provided contact details for free repairs or refunds.
