US crackdown on birth tourism and citizenship fraud affecting Mexican nationals

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a state-led effort to curb birth tourism, directing the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to investigate two Rio Grande Valley hospitals—Mission Regional Medical Center in Mission and Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco—for advertising childbirth packages to foreign nationals. Abbott said, "Citizenship is not for sale in Texas," and the hospitals have removed the billboard after the investigation began.

In a separate action, U.S. immigration authorities revoked the citizenship of six Mexican‑born individuals after uncovering that they concealed serious criminal histories during their naturalization interviews. The cases involve offenses such as sexual abuse of minors, drug trafficking, identity fraud, and firearms violations, leading to denaturalization under federal law.

Both measures reflect heightened enforcement by U.S. officials against immigration‑related fraud that involves Mexican nationals.
