US crypto adoption hits 10% in 2025, Federal Reserve report shows
The Federal Reserve’s 2025 Household Economic Well‑Being Survey found that roughly 10% of U.S. adults used or invested in cryptocurrency, the highest level in three years but still below the 12% peak recorded in 2021. The analysis indicates that 9% of respondents treat crypto as an investment, 2% use it for payments and 1% for remittances.
Adoption is notably higher among unbanked adults, with 6% reporting crypto use compared with 2% of those who are banked. More than one‑quarter of users who paid with digital assets said the merchant preferred crypto for its speed, privacy and lower transaction costs. Payment firms such as Block have enabled Bitcoin and stablecoin payments for over 800,000 U.S. merchants, while Bitcoin‑Lightning startup Lightspark is expanding payment infrastructure.
Political polling shows cryptocurrency policy remains a low‑priority issue for most voters, and public trust still favors traditional banks. Institutional investors, however, remain bullish, with a majority expecting price gains and planning to increase exposure.
