US Defense Bill Section 219 Sparks Conspiracy Claims Over US-Israel Military Cooperation

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the $1.15 trillion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes a provision known as Section 219 – the United States‑Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative. The provision directs the Secretary of Defense to appoint an executive agent to coordinate bilateral defense‑technology research, development, testing, evaluation, integration and industrial cooperation with Israel.

Critics such as Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Representative Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez, commentator Tucker Carlson and host Cenk Uygur have portrayed the provision as an “existential threat” that could merge the U.S. and Israeli militaries and undermine American sovereignty. In reality, Section 219 merely outlines a framework for cooperation and contains no language about merging general staffs, joint command structures, or ceding control to foreign officials.
