U.S. officials to visit Paraguay and Argentina for trade and security talks
High-ranking United States officials Christopher Landau, Deputy Secretary of State, and Juan Pablo Segura, Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, are scheduled to conduct a regional tour of Paraguay and Argentina from October 19 to 26.
In Paraguay, the delegation will meet with President Santiago Peña and Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez Lezcano. The agenda includes leading a commercial mission of U.S. companies to explore investment opportunities, discussing bilateral trade, and strengthening cooperation against transnational crime. The visit will also include a trip to the Itaipú hydroelectric dam.
In Argentina, the officials will meet with President Javier Milei, Foreign Minister Pablo Quirnogran, and members of Congress. Discussions will focus on economic growth, increasing U.S. investment, and security cooperation, specifically leveraging the Andes-Atlantic Corridor initiative. This visit follows recent high-level communications between President Milei and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding regional prosperity and shared security interests.
