US diplomat Marco Rubio engages in China talks and Israel‑Lebanon agreement

US official Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on June 30, during which the Chinese side urged the United States to build a “stable, strategic” bilateral relationship and to translate recent high‑level understandings into concrete policies.

Earlier, on June 26 in Washington, Marco Rubio attended the signing of a framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon. The document commits Israel to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon once non‑state armed groups, notably Hezbollah, are verified as disarmed, and it envisions Lebanese army control of the border. Analysts say the condition tied to Hezbollah’s disarmament is unlikely to be met, casting doubt on the agreement’s implementation.

Both events illustrate US diplomatic involvement in East Asian and Middle Eastern security issues, highlighting differing challenges in advancing stable relations with China and resolving the Israel‑Lebanon border stalemate.
